Male Vs. Female
· In
my opinion, based on gender, there is no difference. Of course every puppy in a litter is going to have its own personality
but this is not based on gender. Male or female, either would make a wonderful
pet.
TWO PUPS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
I am SO not trying to be a salesman here! It is just so true. Having two pups is better than having one. If you work outside
the home and you feel guilty leaving a pup at home 8 hours or so...having two, they play with each other and keep each other
company.
They chew on each other and potty training tends to be just as easy if not easier.
Companionship with another pup is a GOOD thing! :)

Vet Visit
·
When you take your puppy to your vet for the first time, remember to take your health
papers and vaccination schedule that we sent home with you. This will tell the vet exactly where your pup is in his vaccinations.
·
Remember that when you go to
the vet, this is a place where SICK animals are. Your pup has just started the vaccination schedule and is not totally immune
to the diseases. Please do not allow your puppy to play at the vets. Never place
him on the floor. Keep him confined to your lap or Pet Taxi. It is the safest place.
-
If you happen to be in the Champaign,
IL area...Dr. Kent Davis at the Animal Hospital at the Crossing, is simply THE BEST. His phone number is 217-356-6387. He
knows the latest technology and truely loves animals! I just can not say enough good about his practice.
Training
· We believe in crate training. It is a safe haven for your puppy. It is not punishment it is a safe place that your
puppy has come to love.
·
Socialization is very important
for your puppysdevelopment.
· Have fun while you love, train and play with your puppy. Puppy classes
are always good.
Gone During the Day?
· If your puppy is alone during the day, make sure he has plenty of water, safe
toys, potty pads and a safe place to sleep. A baby gate at the doorway of kitchen,
bathroom is perfect.
Nighttime
·
You will have the hard decision
of deciding where your puppy will sleep. In bed with you? In his crate? Either
is fine.
·
If he is going to sleep in his
crate, make sure he has some favorite toys, blanket, etc. He is going to CRY
that first night. Play a radio for him and put a wind up ticking clock under his blankets.
·
Please remember that your puppy
is like an infant. He is not going to be able to get through the night without having to go potty. This is true if he sleeps with you or in his crate.
Food
- Please keep your puppy on the Eukanuba Puppy Food
that has been sent home with you. We have feed the Iams and Eukanuba products for 16 years and have found them to be the very
best.
- Regulating and scheduling the feeding will help
with Potty training
GROOMING
If you are in Central Illinois, I recommend that you have your Cocker
groomed at "BEGGIN FUR A BRUSHIN", in Bement Illinois. The phone number is 217-678-BEGN. Joyce Henderson is the owner
and she is the best!
Potty Training
- We have already started
this process for you.
- We take the pups outside
and to the potty pads and reward them.
- If your puppy sleeps
for 5 minutes assume that when he wakes up he has to go potty.
- Take him to the SAME
spot every time to go potty.
- Until he gets some
age on him, he will need to go potty in the middle of the night. This is like infants, all have different schedules. Your puppy may not need to get up in the night at 9 weeks but the littermate may still
need to go out at night at 12 weeks. There is not a set rule of age when they outgrow this.
- This is all about
repetition, sometimes I wonder if I am the one getting trained, time to take the puppy out!J The pup will eventually get the hang of it.
